CRICKET WORLD CUP FINAL 2007 IN BARBADOS
04 Mar, 2006

Barbados has successfully bid to host the 2007 Cricket World Cup final, as well as six "Super Eight" matches and several warm-up matches. The final is set for Saturday 28 April 2007.

Kensington Oval, which is being completely rebuilt, will be the venue for the final. The historic Kensington Oval is the first West Indian cricket ground to host a touring team (England in 1895) and was also is known for being the venue where the first Test century by a West Indian (Clifford Roach) was scored in 1930.

The Oval is currently being completely rebuilt. This reconstruction involves significant expansion and enhancement to all aspects of the facilities there. Upon completion for CWC 2007, it will seat almost double its previous capacity of 15,000. The 28,000 seating capacity will be made possible with the use of some temporary seating. However, it is expected that fixed seating capacity will be at least 20,000.

The 3Ws oval, located at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, will also be featured in CWC 2007, as it will host a number of warm-up matches. This ground, which has undergone much improvement over the past four years, is being further upgraded to meet the standards set by the ICC. During the past few years the Barbados and West Indies teams have often used it for practice sessions. It has also been the venue of many first class regional matches involving Barbados as well as international matches involving visiting test teams.
